LIGHTHOUSE MINISTRIES
A ministry to seniors in residence care communities
spreading the gospel light to those who need it most.
Pastor Doug and Norma Wegner
Lighthouse Ministries goal is to reach out to residence care for senior citizens to share Christ and His love with them by message and by example. Weekly interdenominational services for the residents at Highland Manor are held at 11:00 a.m. every Sunday. In the past we have connected this ministry to a local church so we have a church home to which we can direct family members who do not have one of their own.
Christian Community Church is our church home and meets at Falcon Ridge Hotel in the Sunset Mesa room. We invite everyone who is able to attend Sunday school at 9:30 a.m., worship services at 10:45 a.m. on Sundays, and Sunday evening Bible study at 6:30 p.m. We also have a Bible study and prayer time on Wednesdays. Call 702 346-2698 for more information.
Lighthouse Ministries is self-supporting. Its teachings are based upon the Baptist Faith and Message although its format is interdenominational. Our services are open to all who wish to attend and have included Protestant, Catholic, Jewish, and other denominations in the past. Our current congregation has Catholic, Methodist and Baptist attendees. No matter the ethnic or religious background, everyone hears the gospel of Jesus Christ, how much God loves them and how He sent His Son to die for their sins. They are given the opportunity to make a decision for Christ if they have not done so before.
We spend time during the week visiting the residents, praying for them, and letting them know we care about them. This ministry is truly a blessing. These people are all but forgotten. Many of these residents rarely see anyone, family or friends, even when they live in the area. They are lonely and hungry for a friendly face to share a smile with them. That is what we do—share a friendly smile and the gospel with them. It is such a blessing to see their eyes light up because it makes them feel wanted because we take the time to visit with them, bring a touch of cheer to their lives, sing with them and bring God's word to them weekly.
Lighthouse Ministries has been shepherded by Pastor Doug Wegner who has been in senior ministries for more than ten years. He has used his education and music background to develop ministries that reach out to our senior citizens to bring a little cheer and light into their lives as well as introducing them to Jesus Christ and sharing God's word with them.
Pastor Doug began working with senior ministries while serving at Central Baptist Church, Aurora under Dr. Ergun “Butch” Caner. Their minister to seniors was ready to retire. Doug spent almost a year under this pastor’s mentorship and assumed the ministry when he retired. He had found God's niche for him. It is a ministry that suits Pastor Doug well and is a blessing for the seniors who live in assisted living and independent living communities. Pastor Doug served at three separate homes while in the Denver area and trained a minister to take his place when we moved to Las Vegas. Within six months of our move to LV, God called Doug to minister at two communities there.
There are special needs in these communities. It is our desire to spend more time with the residents at Highland Manor and begin to share the gospel with other residents as we can. There are some things we can do to introduce Christ to the residents that will not conflict with the management. It is our prayer that these new approaches will soften the residents' hearts and let them be open to the gospel. Our goal is to let them know that someone cares about them.
When Pastor Doug rolls his wheelchair into Highland Manor everyone knows him by name. Doug has a special relationship with the folks at Highland Manor. Doug visits the manor often. Everyone knows Doug is there when they need a pastor. Thank you Doug and Norma.
Be in prayer as we begin new ways to share God’s love with Highland Manor. |
